Ebola Medal Miniature
Instituted in 2015 in recognition of service by civilian and military personnel involved in the response to the Ebola crisis in West Africa. This is the miniature version of the medal.
Operational Area
The operational area for the medal will be the geographical territories of Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, and their territorial waters. These countries have been defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as having had widespread and intense transmission of the Ebola virus.
Commencement Date
The commencement date for the medal will be 23 March 2014. This reflects the date on which the World Health Organisation (WHO) first publicly recognised the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The situation will be reviewed on a regular basis to determine whether the medal is still warranted.
Qualifying Period
The qualifying period for the medal is set at 21 days of continuous service within the operational area, or 30 days of accumulated service on working visits within the operational area, provided that the visits are for a minimum of 48 hours each.
Eligible Personnel
a) Military personnel under the command of Commander of Joint Operations and other members of the UK Armed Forces who are providing direct support to HMG's response to the Ebola crisis;
b) Any volunteer or employee directly deployed by the Department for International Development, UK Med, Public Health England, NHS, or Stabilisation Unit in support of HMG's response to the Ebola crisis;
c) Any member of the UK civil service;
d) Any UK national working for a non-governmental organisation supporting the HMG response funded by the Department for International Development; e) Any other UK national responding to the Ebola crisis in support of HMG's response and whose service can be verified by HMG.
